"Gloriana" and "Minerva" tack out of the Eastern Yacht Club anchorage, circa 1901.
A fine breeze and fine weather as yachts make sail just off the Eastern Yacht Club and sail out of Marblehead Harbor in preparation for the day's racing. In the foreground is the famous 70 ft. Nat. Herreshoff designed cutter, "Gloriana". Launched in 1891 she won all her races in the 46 foot (waterline length) class in that season. She was a revolutionary design of that time, with long overhangs and a 'spoon' bow, rather than the shorter overhangs and 'clipper' bow of "Minerva", seen just astern of "Gloriana". By 1901 "Gloriana" was owned by Mr. W. Abbott of Boston and raced with the Eastern Yacht Club Fleet.
