"Sayonara" leads the 46 foot class into Newport past Castle Hill Light, 1891.
"Sayonara", owned by Bayard Thayer, can be seen surfing down the waves as she sails towards Newport, closely followed by "Oweene" (owned by the Turner brothers) and others of the 46 foot class. All yachts have spinnakers set and are running with the wind dead astern. The third yacht, under a cloud shadow, is sailing on the opposite tack to the others.

Racing in the 46 foot class was very hotly contested in 1891 but "Gloriana" designed by Nat. Herreshoff, totally dominated the racing. "Sayonara" was designed by Edward Burgess and launched for the 1891 season.
